One-off movie based on a fantasy novel by my favourite writer, Arai Motoko. She calls herself "a Sci-Fi author with the least knowledge of science in the world" and her work is more of fantasy than Sci-Fi, IMHO.
The theme of her novels are often the internal struggle of the characters and they are, therefore, supposed to be hard to make into anime. This movie is not an exception and failed to show certain key aspects of the original novel although the overall animation quality is decent. The fact they used non-seiyuu idol for the voice of the heroine (Neko) didn't help, either.
